Lomography are serious about their commitment to experimental photography and keeping analogue practices alive and accessible to everyone, they have been since 1992. The LomoKino is no different — working with common 35 mm film and being completely hand operated via crank, the LomoKino makes it easy for everyone to start their analogue filmmaking journey, or find inspiration when in a creative rut.
When I was offered to create the concept video for the LomoKino, I quickly felt I had the opportunity to honour my passion for film and my subject of study in university. I was entrusted with directing the entire creative process, from proposal to delivery. Working closely with the head of the Online & Marketing department, Charlotte Peleray, Ive presented a simple, punch-line-based idea, based on Lomography’s 10 Golden Rules and their motto ‘Don’t Think, Just Shoot’:
Just shoot.
The story will come to you.
In order to bring the over a decade old camera back into the spotlight, crafting a strong and fun narrative was crucial. Centered around a filmmaker struggling to tell their story even after countless drafts, the LomoKino presents itself as the solution to getting back into the magic world of film without worrying about the details. It encourages viewers to turn back to the basics: just load up your LomoKino and go looking for that special something that your story needs. It will reveal itself to you as you shoot.
To honour Lomographys love for experimentation and the LomoKino’s hands-on nature to filmmaking, all the sample shots in the concept video have been manually animated in Procreate. Even more, most of the shots are accompanied by hand-drawn animations to give the impression of a truthfully experimental, hand-crafted image, made for those who really want to get creative.
